Curriculum - Guild (Advisory)
Guild curriculum and Focus
This is course is part of the heart of the Renaissance program. It is intended for teachers and students to have an opportunity to form strong connections, get to know each other, coach/guide their students through their three years in middle school at Renaissance. Students are assigned to one of the four general education classroom teachers, up to 24 students. In guild we talk about, directly instruction and practice strong student skills. These skills include developing a strong work ethic, developing strong communication and collaboration skills and fostering their sense of and execution of personal responsibility. In addition, we work with the students on organization skills, time management skills, and the very important skill of deep, thoughtful reflection. We also guide and coach our students in developing strong elements of their character such as being honest, compassion, and spreading kindness through our Character Strong curriculum adopted by the Lake Washington School District for social emotional learning at the middle school level. In addition we have celebrations, play community building games. and have semester 1 and semester 2 student-led conferences. Finally, as 8th graders are ready to move on to high school, guild teachers craft individual, unique awards for each 8th grader in their guild to recognize the unique qualities and opportunities that lies in front of them as they make this next transition in their educational careers.
