Attendance

Reporting Attendance

Parents/guardians must email RSARAttendance@lwsd.org (preferred) or leave a voicemail on the 24/7 attendance line 425-936-1591 by 8:00 am to report student absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals. Please include the following information:

  • Student's First and Last Name
  • Date of absence/late arrival/early dismissal
  • Reason (examples include - doctor's appointment, dentist appointment, illness, family emergency, religious observation, etc.). Not providing a valid reason will result in an unexcused absence

Attendance will be taken in each class, daily. An absence is missing the entire class period altogether or missing half of the class period.

It is a parent/guardian responsibility to report all absences within 48 hours, after which, the absence will remain unexcused. Student's may not excuse their own absences, we must receive a message from a parent/guardian.

If your student was marked absent/tardy, please email the teacher directly with any questions. The teacher will notify the office if there was a mistake. Parent's may not excuse absences/tardies for students who are on campus, but not in class.

Late Arrivals:

All students must sign in at the office before going to class. Parents/guardians can email or call the attendance line with the student's first and last name and reason for the late arrival. The office will determine if the late arrival reason qualifies as excused based on the information that is provided.

Early Dismissals:

Parents/guardians should notify the office in advance on the day of the early dismissal by emailing or calling the attendance line with the reason for the early dismissal. Please include the student's first and last name, time of departure, and reason. The office will determine if the early dismissal reason qualifies as excused based on the information that is provided. Students must be signed out in the office by an authorized adult. Students will not be released to unauthorized adults. Written permission from the parent/guardian is required to release the student to someone other than the authorized adults listed in skyward.

Pre-Planned and/or extended Absences (Planned Absences of 2+ days):

It is important that your student attend school regularly. If a planned/extended absence is unavoidable and your student will be absent from school for 2 or more consecutive days, please fill out the Pre-Arranged Absence Form at least one week prior to the absences and email it to RSARAttendance@lwsd.org. The principal will determine if the absences will be excused. Please also contact your student's teachers to inform them of the absence. Teachers are not required to provide all classroom assignments before the student's extended absence.

Truancy/Chronic Absenteeism:

Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% of the school year whether excused or unexcused. Parents/guardians are expected to work with the School Enrollment Specialist to provide documentation for the absences or work to improve attendance. Chronic absenteeism due to illness, injury, or other medical situations, may require a doctor's note.

Truancy is defined as when students miss school without a valid excuse. When truant, schools are required to notify and meet/work with families to improve student's attendance. The school district may file truancy petitions with the juvenile court after seven unexcused absences in a month, or ten unexcused absences in an academic year.

Students absent for 20 consecutive days will be withdrawn for non-attendance.
