RSAR Health Room

An un-staffed Health Room is available to Renaissance students should a health issue necessitate leaving the classroom. Students must sign in and out with the office manager, identify the health concern, and either return to class within 15 minutes, or be picked up by a parent/guardian. A student must be picked up if he/she has a fever or vomiting. Please make sure your child’s emergency contacts are up to date in the event she/he needs to go home and you are not available. Parents/Guardians: If your student reaches out during the school day to report feeling unwell, please direct them to the health room. 

Medications

If a student needs to take medications during school hours, a complete Medication Administration Authorization form must be on file, signed by a parent/guardian and the prescribing medical provider. This is true regardless of if the medication is prescription or over-the-counter; if the medicine will be in the health room or self-carried by a student. A parent may not call the office or send a note asking staff to administer medication without a medication order. However, a parent may come to the school and administer medication to their student if a medication is needed urgently or unexpectedly. Before a student may self-carry their medication, the School Nurse will assess their ability to do so safely and independently.  Medication Authorizations or med orders are valid for only one school year, and a new order must be received each school year if the student continues to need that medication. Medications stored in the Health Room are kept in a locked cabinet and must be in the original pharmacy or manufacturer’s container and labeled with the following information:

• Name of student
• Name of medication
• Dosage, mode and time of administration
• Name of physician prescribing medication
